New queen seen - yes she was spotted and marked (green) in hive one in the garden.

Phew!  That worked out OK in the end then.  We worried that we might not have a good queen after the confusion of uniting what was probably two queenright colonies.  She is laying on 3 frames and all looks good.  We also reduced this hive down to one super by removing any undrawn or partially drawn frames and gave back the two extracted frames for the bees to refill.

Colony 2 is doing well.  The new queen is now laying on 6 frames with the nest centred across the two brood boxes.  There are lots of stores in the brood boxes with some building up in the super too although not yet capped.

And with colony 3 we just took a look into the top brood box where she is laying on 7 frames with a goodly amount of stores on each frame and the super is building up.  Queens sometmes have a habit of nipping around the corner of a frame and this one was particularly elusive as I tried to get a shot of her.

We got her in the end though.  Here she is.

New queen in garden hive 3

Varroa boards all added to the garden apiary hives - we'll need to make some decisions soon.
