Another dusting

Well David made time to get over to our Apiary on the Hill and to the Rectory so all of our bees had received their first dusting of icing sugar by early last week and we decided to repeat the treatment this weekend.  So, Friday afternoon we visited the two hives in our out-apiaries and gave them another thorough dusting.  The Rectory looks a lot better than we hoped - the queen is laying well (lots of eggs seen) so maybe it's a little too soon to write off that lady!  And we also thoroughly dusted the hives in the garden on Saturday.  Next day counts at home showed a good increase in varroa drop although slightly lower than day one of the first treatment.  I'm pretty confident in David's eyesight and thoroughness for the count and we're noticing different size and colour of mites so maybe we're getting younger ones.  Anyway, we remain optimistic!
