What do I do if a swarm of bees turns up?

If you have a swarm of bees - DON'T PANIC. The first thing to check is if they are honey bees. If they really are honey bees then ring your local beekeepers association. For more details on how to check what you have got and get help see our swarms page.

If you live near to Bridport in Dorset then you can ring us on 01308 423808.

How goes it on The Hill?

Well, not bad at all.  We made a special effort to fit in a full inspection as we had found a queen cell last week and, yes, there was another - primed with a grub in it.  We saw the queen and she seemed to be laying well so we have removed it.  I just wonder if they had felt restricted with stores at the edge of the nest but we had moved in a frame which the bees are now starting to draw out so hopefully they will let her expand the nest.  We'll still need to keep an eye on them though.  Varroa count still good - one a day drop.

Now I did the inspection over on The Hill whilst David went to work with the camera - is he planning for the Melplash Show I wonder?
